Book of Names. part 2
Okay, so I gave you bit of a teaser of the book yesterday
The Book of Names, by D. Barkley Briggs.
The setting:
It starts off in the suburbs of Kansas City with 4 brothers, and a father moving there. They are trying to pick up the pieces after their mother has died.
The two oldest boys find a runestone that sends them into another world called the Hidden Lands of Karac Tor. From the get go they are on a whirl wind adventure of their life! This surreal adventure conjures up emotions and discoveries that the boys could never have imagined!
I really fell in love with the characters in this book. Briggs brings them to life with his ease of writing. While I know this is a young adults book, I felt it will be a good book to read aloud to my kids and not to mention we’ll be looking forward to the rest of the series! As Mr. C puts it “It was mean to leave me hanging! I need to read the next one!”
This series has the makings of a classic keeper for the Sci-fi world!

[...] swept up in the story. Valerie Comer speaks of the author’s motivations here and here. Amy has fallen in love with the characters Shane, I think, wanted a clearer understanding of what the characters wanted. [...]
Kansas City is in Missouri (no, really) and likewise the book’s young Heroes are from Missouri. At one point, he even worked in the old pun: Hadyn of Misery.
ah yes, it was meant to say Kansas City, not just Kansas. Thanks for pointing that out.. if you note my previous post it talks about Missouri. ;p
That’s great you’re reading it aloud with your kids. I’m looking forward to being able to do that one day!
