devotions for preschoolers
Have you ever tried to get a toddler to sit still? Sometimes it’s pretty hard. Especially when it’s to listen to a book that has more than 2 words per page!
I love the new book I received called The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2 by Carla Barnhill and Illustrated by Elena Kucharik (the artist for Care Bears!!).
It has nice and short devotions with pretty pictures that attract little children to it. My kids thought it was great! They loved the pastel colors and the cute little children throughout the book. My 2 year old kept counting all the kids in the pictures and wanting to know if he was one of them! LOL.
I like the prayers at the end of each day. They are nice and simple and easy for the kids to understand — short enough for them to sit through, and interesting enough for them to ask questions about it! (I love books that bring out discussion with my little ones!) They’ve been dragging it around the house wanting to read it.
Having my one One Year Bible previously, I was really appreciative of the break down of this book. The One Year Devotions is broken down into 3 parts. A short scripture verse, a small store and a summary of it. It is dated for each day of the year, which is nice because you don’t have to stick a bookmark in to remember where you’re at — a good thing if little hands are picking it up and carrying it around the house!
I think it’s a great way to teach your children the value of prayer and scripture together. Books like this can help establish the habit of prayer and devotion even at an early age and help keep scripture hidden in their hearts. It is very Do-able with your preschoolers, which is important! Even my 6 year old enjoyed this book because it was short enough for her to read it on her own! I think it will make a great devotion for her to read.
