Savvy by Ingrid Law
Let me start out by saying this is one of the most imaginative books I’ve read!
I love love LOVE this book!
Savvy, by Ingrid Law is an extremely well written book and beyond the norm! I rarely rant about a book, but boy this one sure had everything I wanted in a book– Total entertainment with a touch of flare for the imagination!
I wasn’t expecting to like it this much; and rarely does a book written for 9-12 years old bring me to tears! Both hubby and myself read this and we agreed that this book will be a classic as the story is timeless and full of the romance of life! And though it’s main character is female it will appeal to both male and female alike!
The cover:
I love it when a cover actually compliments the book. I’ve read so many books and often you don’t understand what possessed someone to put that particular cover on their book, but this one… it so fits!
When I actually looked at the cover, it screamed creativity to me! It’s colors so vibrant and moving — you could feel the swirling and mystery of it. It really enhanced and highlighted the book for me. I felt it really brought it to life!
So what is this book about?
It’s about having savvy.
Now, what exactly is savvy? Savvy is something that’s deep inside of us all. It’s something we do – our magic.
Mibs Beaumont’s family just has it a little more than the rest of us! Her grand father can move the earth and make mountains, her brother can cause storms, and her other brother can make electricity.. and her mother… well she’s just perfect!
Most of the Beaumont family get their savvy when they are 13, and Mibs was no exception. Watching her change before our eyes –figuring out her savvy and how to use it makes us all feel like we have some savvy deep in us. She learns things about herself and others that she never imagined!
You will feel the joy and anguish in this coming of age tale. It’s not overly girlish, or overly general. You learn to love the characters and really feel like you’ve gotten to know them by the end.
Ingrid Law really writes up a storm with this book. Whether your a 9 or 39 I think you’ll find the kid inside of us enjoying this book. Thanks Ingrid! I’m so delighted that you shared your savvy with us!
This book is one that will be in my library for a long time and I’ll be looking for more of Ingrid’s books in the future!
